Awake the Irish to the Physical Existence of Their Diabolic Environment

A Modest Proposal is a satirical essay written by Jonathan Swift as a way to express the horrific conditions Irish people underwent throughout the 1700’s (McNeil, 2010). Swift describes the evil, unjust and cruel treatment Ireland experienced due to its tyrant the forceful England. He develops a persona, the fictional character, with the intention of leading the Irish towards the truth and reality of their deprivation. The persona alone is insufficient in making the narrator seem reasonable. Thus, the persona utilizes irony that serves the purpose of attacking, exposing and scorning the Irish people. Yet, in order to make cannibalism sound like a practical ironic solution the author wisely uses his wit to imply that cannibalism cannot be more savagely cruel and unethical than what the Irish are permitting their oppressor to do to them. Swift’s use of the persona, irony and wit awakens the Irish to the physical existence of their diabolic environment and convinces them that they should take action in order to cease the circumstances. Fictional persona conceals Swift’s true identity helping him portray to the readers the significance of Ireland’s problems and allowing them to see the truth and reality. The persona identifies a very intelligent, serious and concerned Irishman. He seems to be monstrous for proposing something cruel and evil very calmly as if it is a typical thing to consume the flesh of an infant. In general, the proposition to eat infants makes his proposal diabolic. He proposes: â€Å"at exactly one year old that I propose to provide for them, in such a manner as instead of being a charge upon their parents or the parish, or wanting food and raiment for the rest of their lives, they shall, on the contrary, contribu... ... and wit in order to influence the readers to approach his essay and his proposal with sincerity. However, all he really wanted the Irish to do is buy Irish goods, tax their absentees, become wiser and economical with money and be less indolent. Upon closing, his essay Swift asks the property owners to be more lenient on their people. Swift’s essay presents the Irish with a fanatical solution in order to make them realize the horrible and inhumane circumstances they underwent throughout the 1700’s. How I want to be Remembered

I would like to be remembered in a lot of ways that I know I will not. I would like to be remembered as a brave, strong, smart young lady, but I will probably be remembered as the lesbian Satanist who was smart except nobody knew because she never tried.Think of the ways you remember people. You remember them for their bad and their good. What if you had no good , what if you had no bad? That’s impossible everybody has a little bit of both in them people just don’t always remember it. The way you are remembered is based on how you behaved and what did while you were around. Think of our founding fathers. They had their faults ,but their good out shines the bad. Now think of all the wars we’ve had. Their were leaders on both sides. Each side ruitted for theit leader thinking they were good and the other was bad.For the other team is was reversed. This shows how there are two sides to every story and how the opinion changes based on who is telling the story. Some pe ople might remember the good about you, some might only remember the bad about you, some might remember the bad and the good, and some might not remember you at all. You always think of the first impression you make well what about the last? When you’re dying would you like people to come see you or have them not and have their last memory of you be good instead of you dying? Just like would you rather have an open casket or a picture of you displayed at your funeral?Remember that every moment could be your last and to make the most of it. Remember the last things you say to somebody because it might be the last words you ever say to them. I’m not saying live your life in fear trying to make every moment good because it could be how people remember you. I’m saying to live your life to the fullest, make the most of every moment, mean the words you say, cherish your time with the people important to you,do something worth living for. Sometimes we’d rather not be remembered or we’d rather not remember somebody. Sometimes no matter how hard you don’t want to remember somebody you do because they meant something to you and even though it hurts to think about them you still do.Sometimes you remember the good things and those hurt you because that person is gone and you can’t have those moments again and sometimes you remember the bad moment and they hurt you now because they hurt you them. That person might only be gone temporarily like they are away on a trip or you were a couple and broke up. If you know they are coming back or not the time without them  is still lonely and painful. If you’re lucky that person might come back (if they aren’t dead because if they came back then that’d be weird and ya know zombie like). If you die you would like to be remembered for all the good things you did not the bad. Some people would be sad if you were gone and some might be happy. You don’t want the ones you love to be sad that you’re gone ,but you don’t exactly want them to be happy about it either. You would like them to mourn you just not be upset that you’re gone because you still want them to live their lives happily without you. Things don’t always go as planned. Sometimes people leave unexpectedly and don’t come back and sometimes people die without warning.Life doesn’t follow a plan it goes with the flow and to live life happily that’s what you need to do too. Expect the unexpected. I’d rather live life to the fullest with the people I love then living it full of regret for things I never did and the things I never said. I actually don’t want to be remembered I’d rather be forgotten entirely once I die. It is just easiest that way.

Elizabeth Fuller And Anne Bradstreet - 1235 Words

Two-hundred years is a sizeable gap of time that allows plenty of room for change. American society had been rapidly changing from the early seventeenth century to the late nineteenth century, but despite this, the roles and rights of women have remained locked in place. There were many factors to consider as to why women were not allowed to flourish in their time and exceed these boundaries, and while some accepted it, there were many that opposed and faced these difficulties head on. Two female authors, one from colonial times, and one from nineteenth century America, have written about the obstacles and misogyny they’ve overcome in a male dominated literary career. Despite the two-hundred-year gap between the lives of Margaret Fuller and Anne Bradstreet, they both face issues regarding the static stereotype that women are literarily inferior and subservient handmaids to men. During the seventeenth century, when Puritan society had migrated to what is now Massachusetts, Puritans were proud of the patriarchal society they established; they believed themselves to be â€Å"Old Testament patriarchs (Westerkamp 573).† From this, they believed the husband to be the leader of the home, and for the wife to be not a person, but an important factor in maintaining a functioning society. There was no regard to the factor itself if society was functioning properly (Westerkamp, 574). This is the basis of the Puritan patriarchy that Bradstreet had skillfully faced during her lifetime.Show MoreRelatedBrief Survey of American Literature3339 Words   |  14 Pagesfounder of Jamestown, Virginia; Pocahontas - John Winthrop, â€Å"A Model of Christian Charity†: â€Å"†¦ We shall be as a city upon a hill.
